Laurie Roberts of the Arizona Republic has published an elite list of “kooks” in Arizona politics, in her column “Operation Dekookification: my top 10 revealed“, she named Carl Seel as the #1 kook in Arizona politics! Why am I not surprised?
From her column:
Rep. Carl Seel continues his quest to root out Barack Obama’s birth certificate while the rest of us continue to our quest to figure out how this guy ever got into the Legislature. When this Phoenix Republican is not on birther patrol, he’s sponsoring bills battling AHCCCS fraud — which he hasn’t yet found despite serving a fake subpoena on the agency this spring — and thwarting conspiracies to create (a.) a one-world order and (b.) a North American Union. The former Minuteman was first elected in 2008 on his third try for public office. Few of his bills go anywhere – most don’t even get hearings. Apparently, I’m not the only one who thinks he’s waaaay out there because he’s one of only two Republican second termers who didn’t land a committee chairmanship. Besides the birther issue, Seel is also known in Comedy Central circles for his 2010 appearance on the Daily Show, wherein he explained how it’s OK to use Arizona’s speeding laws to catch illegal immigrants but not necessarily to catch speeders.
The race: Seel and GOP challengers Paul Boyer and George Benevides are seeking this north Valley district’s two House seats. The top two will face former Democratic Rep. Jackie Thrasher and Tonya Norwood in the Nov. 6 general election.
Carl Seel clearly is a clown who will do anything to get attention no matter how ridiculous Arizona and himself look. Here’s Carl Seel making a complete jackass of himself on the Daily Show. Carl Seel is silly without even trying, and he belongs on Comedy Central, not the Arizona House of Representatives!
The popular Arizona conservative political blog, Political Mafioso, proclaims that “Carl Seel is No Conservative.” From the blog:
Seel ‘claims’ to be a Conservative. Do Real Conservatives use Clean Elections to get over $150,000 in the past few elections, then spent part of the $$$ on things like GPS & computers for personal use.
In contrast, George Benavides, has an impressive life long record of selfless public service and Republican Party activism and zero personal baggage. It is not hard to see why we back George Benavides for Arizona House of Representatives. From our endorsement:
George has an exemplary record of public service, starting as a decorated Viet Nam Air Force veteran, and has worked for and with local, county, state and federal leaders, including the Arizona Department of Revenue, the Maricopa County Assessor Office, Maricopa County Community Colleges District, Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT), and the Arizona State Board of Equalization (SBOE).
George’s solid record public service includes the Maricopa County Board of Equalization (1993); Arizona State Board of Equalization (SBOE – 2001 – 2011); Served as a Hearing Officer to Maricopa County; Pima County; Pinal County; Yavapai County; Mohave County; and Navajo County; City of Glendale Housing Authority (Vice Chair – 2002); and (volunteer as the Chairperson – 2002) of the Glendale Sister Cities Program.
George has been a life-long Republican, and was very active in the Republican Party of Texas. He was one of the first Hispanics elected to the Texas presidential electoral college, and worked on the campaigns of President George W. Bush and Ronald Reagan.
There could not be a starker difference in the GOP primary for LD20. One candidate, has made a complete fool of himself, over and over, to the extreme embarrassment of Arizonans, while the other has a life long record of public service and repeatedly demonstrates strong moral fiber. Please join us in supporting George Benavides for Arizona House of Representatives!
